Maldives government allows one additional year to develop resorts

The Government has allowed an extra year to develop resorts that are yet to be completed. This follows a decision reached at a Cabinet meeting held yesterday at the President's Office, after discussions and proposals by a special committee set to look into the matter.

The Government also reached a conclusion to delay charging rent for the resorts for a period of one year, in addition to helping to get loans from international financial institutions to develop the resorts.

Cabinet ministers planned on the restrictions faced by the fisheries, agriculture and construction industry in the meeting. President Nasheed also briefed the Cabinet on his recent State Visit to neighboring Sri Lanka,
