Tourist arrivals to Maldives increase by 9.7 percent

Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has revealed that the number of tourists who visited the country last January increased by 9.7 percent, compared to January of last year.

A press release issued by the Ministry read, while 53,000 tourists visited in January of 2009 67,478 tourists visited Maldives last month.

The Ministry said that according to the statistics received from Immigration Department, most tourists visited from European countries, adding that European countries shared 76.1 percent of tourist arrivals in January, with 53,334 tourists.

The Ministry also said tourists used 79,562 beds in 88 resorts last month, out of 20,804 beds registered in 97 resorts.
