Maldives to offer free holiday package for 750,000th tourist

Maldives Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) will offer a free holiday package for the 750,000th tourist visiting the Maldives this year.

A board official said the first 750,000th tourist is expected to visit the Maldives tomorrow.

“Special activities will be held at the airport tomorrow by the board and the [Tourism] ministry a resort sponsored the tourist’s holiday,” the official said.

A press release issued by the board said 750,000 tourists visiting the Maldives for the first time in a year shows the progress Maldives tourism industry has made over the past years.

According to figures disclosed by Tourism Ministry, tourist arrivals in October 2010 increased by 21.8 percent compared to that of last year. A ministry statement said 74,707 tourists visited the Maldives in October 2010 while 62,432 visited in October 2009.
