Employees of Conrad Maldives Rangali Resort in the Alif Dhaal atoll of the Maldives are on strike.

An employee, who wished to remain anonymous, said most of the local employees are taking part in the strike, which began at 9pm last evening.

“We are protesting at the Staff Recreation area in such a way that it would not cause any disturbance to the tourists,” the employee said.

The employee who spoke to Haveeru from the resort, said the employees went on the strike after the management failed to increase their service charge and also failed to deliver on the promise of a salary increment.

The employees have reportedly requested the resort’s management to remove General Manager Carstan Shiek from his post.

The employee, however, noted that the General Manager met with the protesting employees last evening.

“The Manager said that he can’t simply meet the employees’ demands right now. We are not satisfied with the answer because we went on the strike days after we began expressing our dissatisfaction over the matter,” the employee said.

“We told [the management] that we wouldn’t attend work. Our main demand is the removal of the General Manager.”
